Day 1

19 July 2023, 14h

Indestructible Wakefulness - Tantric Practice Empowerment (Chimé Pagme Nyingtik)

Indestructible Wakefulness - His Holiness will introduce participants to the tantric practice called Essence of the Sublime Lady of Immortality (Chimé Pagme Nyingtik) - a meditation method for discovering one’s own indestructible wakefulness through the divine feminine.

Empowerment as performance art

In the West Tibetan rituals are often seen in a religious context,  but they are perhaps better understood as a form of participatory performance art. The point is not just to seek blessings from external deities, for them to interfere with human existence. Rather it is to generate an experience within the participants themselves.

Within the context of the performance both the ritual leader and the students are viewed as equals to  the Buddha. In the understanding that the nature of the Buddha is no different from the nature of one's own mind.

Through the recitation of poetry and visualisation, the participants are guided to the understanding that this experience is not just a temporary fiction in the context of the performance, but is actually just as real, if not more, than our ordinary understanding of identity.

Day 2

20 July 2023,  10h

True happiness and the power of compassion

As modern day humans we are faced with a surprising tragedy - why aren’t we happier?

All the wisdom traditions of the world agree: If we want to be happy, we should focus more on the happiness of others. Not as an ethical rule, another “should” to feed the fires of our guilt.

No, as a practical step-by-step approach to softening the heart to ourselves and others.

Though ancient in its origin, scientific studies have recently confirmed this method's ability to transform our daily existence. Whether our training is grounded in a spiritual or secular philosophy, an open loving heart is indispensable for a happy life. His Holiness has agreed to share his knowledge of  the Buddhist compassion training methods in a way which is practically applicable to everyone regardless of their spiritual affiliation or lack thereof.

His Holiness Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche (The Sakya Trichen) served as the 41st head of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism until March 2017. The Sakya order, which was founded in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, is one of the four main Tibetan Buddhist schools.

His Holiness Sakya Trichen is one of the few living Tibetan masters who were brought up and trained traditionally in Tibet before the cultural revolution.  It is a rare and precious opportunity to be able to meet authentic masters like him in this day and age, and to benefit directly from the insights of this living wisdom tradition.

His Holiness Sakya Trichen has been a teacher for His Holiness the Dalai Lama who has referred to him as “The King of Yogis”. His Holiness is renowned throughout the world for the brilliance and clarity of his teachings and his fluency and precise command of English. Receiving teachings directly from His Holiness is a rare opportunity and carries a special lineage of blessings from the founders of the Sakya Order.
